Dr. Gainan has been using Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) in his Boardman, Ohio practice for many years with tremendous results. Low Level Laser Therapy, also known as Cold Laser Therapy has been scientifically proven to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling while accelerating the healing process which strengthens damaged tissue.

Low Level Laser Therapy makes use of specialized handheld laser devices for the treatment of soft tissue injuries.  LLLT is also known as “low energy” or “cold laser” therapy and has several therapeutic effects on tissue up to two inches below the skin’s surface.  There will be as noticed increase in ATP (Adenosine TriPhosphate) production, cellular metabolism, collagen, and enzyme production, and protein synthesis. Blood flow and lymphatic flow and drainage will improve without damaging tissues.  In 2002, LLLT was approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome.  Currently, it is now used to treat various conditions that involve pain and inflammation of soft tissues and joints such as arthritis, back pain, sport injuries.

Low level laser therapy causes certain photochemical reactions to occur to help control pain, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing of damaged tissue.  Low level laser therapy treats a variety of conditions including arthritis, tendon and ligament problems, nerve root irritation, shoulder and back pain, repetitive strain injuries, TMJ, plantar fascitis, burns, wounds, and a variety of other skin conditions.

These lasers do not cut or destroy tissue, but dissimulate the tissue creating a therapeutic curative effect. Therapeutic lasers work by supplying energy to the body in the form of non-thermal photons of light.  The body is able to absorb this external energy on a cellular level and transform light energy into chemical energy, which the body uses to accelerate the normal healing rate of tissue for a wide range of ailments.

Combining powerful technology with innovative techniques, Dr. Gainan has developed his own ‘breakthrough’ treatment method that is unique to his profession. He has discovered that many complaints often stem from a source that is coming from another location in the body. Once the root cause of the problem is detected and corrected, the symptoms often disappear. The results after treatment are often immediate, longer lasting and nothing short of amazing!

More information on Low Level Laser Therapy...

What is Laser Therapy?

Photomedicine, or low level laser therapy as it is often known, provides medical practitioners with the ability to provide their patients with an improved level of non-invasive, drug-free pain relief and tissue regeneration. It harnesses and magnifies energy from the invisible spectrum of light. Therapeutic lasers give the photon of light the ability to reach tissues up to four inches below the skin’s surface, allowing the process of repair and healing to be greatly accelerated.

What does it feel like?
Most people feel nothing at all during the treatment session.  Some patients will feel a slight tingling sensation brought on by the increased blood flow to the area being treated.  Since the laser produces no heat, no burning sensation or warmth from the laser can be felt.

Is it safe?
Yes.  Low Level Laser Therapy has been in use over 20 years around the world. The FDA has cleared this laser device for use in the United States.

When will I feel results?
The actual effect of laser therapy begins at the time of treatment but generally only becomes noticeable several hours after the treatment.  Some patients will feel relief of pain and experience an increased range of motion right away.  If the condition being treated is chronic and severe, it may take several treatment sessions to produce a significant noticeable result.

How long does a treatment take?
Laser treatments may last as little as five minutes or as long as twenty minutes. It is important to remember that an immediate relief of pain does not mean the condition is fully healed.  So, if a course of therapy is suggested, completing all the treatments will improve your chances of long term success.

Are the results long lasting?
Laser therapy is about producing a healing effect in the cells and structures of the body. Unlike other therapies which mask or cover up the condition, laser light is actually influencing your body to speed up and strengthen the healing process.  The effect of laser therapy is not just temporary relief, it is cumulative over time, so the more treatments you have, the stronger and more permanent the effect.  Because laser light interacts with the cells and a natural healing process is generated, the results are quite long lasting.  In many cases, the problem may be permanently resolved.
